Welcome to the National Association of Family Information Services (NAFIS)

The National Association of Family Information Services (NAFIS) is a registered charity that supports, links and promotes Family Information Services (FIS) in Great Britain. NAFIS represents a network of quality Family Information Services across England, Wales & Scotland.

Our members benefit from a range of support services including, training, publications, electronic communication facilities and regular networking opportunities. Our membership is made up of FIS providers in Great Britain and their key partners in the UK.

Family Information Services provide information, advice and assistance to parents, carers and professionals on the range of children, family and young people’s services available within their area and are an ideal starting point for any family-related query you may have. To find your local FIS, please see our directory.

We hope that you like the new look website and we would welcome any feedback that you might have. We want the site to be a useful resource so if there is anything that you would like to see on here in the future just drop us an email.

Families First Seminars - September Events Confirmed

Thank you to everyone to attended the Families First Seminars in May & June. The Seminars have been well received and we have taken a lot of information away to inform future releases of the Standards and the support that is being put in place to help FIS work towards them.

As we start to plan for the next set of events it would be really helpful if you could complete an online evaluation. It should only take you 5 minutes and it will help us to target our support at these sessions.

Dear FIS,

 

Please find attached copies of the letters that have been sent to FIS and Directors of Children’s Services from the DCSF, both of which provide additional guidance on how LAs should ensure that FIS are adequately resourced.

 

You may recall that Graham Archer promised to act on our concerns at the NAFIS conference that FIS were not receiving appropriate resources to deliver the Information Duty; hopefully the attached letters will have some influence on this situation.

Care to Learn

Care to Learn application forms for the 2009/10 academic year are now available to order by calling the Learner Support Service on 0845 600 7979 (for organisations such as learning providers or Connexions to order more than one form) or 0800 121 8989 (for individuals to order one form). 

 

These should be used to apply for Care to Learn support for learning that starts on or after 1 September 2009.

The following Care to Learn support materials have also been updated for the 2009/10 academic year and are now available to order from Prolog on 0845 602 2260:

Poster – reference LSC-P-NAT-080007

Code of Practice for Childcare Providers – reference LSC-P-NAT-090052

any questions you raise for Ofsted will be sent to us. When meetings between Ofsted and NAFIS take place we will record both the question(s) and answer(s) here for you in order that ALL FIS are informed.

To raise a question to Ofsted; FIRST login and go to the 'Our Work & Services' menu and then 'Submit questions to Ofsted' under 'Communications'.
